When talking about landscape paintings, it calls to mind visions of the French countryside in the 1800’s. During the reign or, maybe more to the point, the revelation of impressionism. When talking about contemporary landscape paintings, some people don’t know such a thing even exists. But it can’t be avoided that landscapes generate intense feelings for the people who live there. There is a very real sense of connection to the land. It’s stamped into the memories we’ve had, the relationships we’ve formed, our childhood and our very identities. It’s in our everyday vernacular while we're planting our ideas and reaping what we've sown. Hey man, you dig? People are defined by what they do. The landscape defines what is available to be done.
Regardless of where you’re from, people are wandering into the wild to make connections that are as old as humanity. Connecting with an earlier ethos, people and cultures through the spirit of the land. A spirit that ripples through time like a metronome sounding out a persistent, pervasive, and pressing clarion call. A call to the soul to embrace its ancient savagery, indifference, and benevolence. - RJB
